An Easy Way To Simplify Your Life That We Need To Stop Being Too Lazy To Do
As serial entrepreneur, author, and internet personality Gary Vaynerchuk stated it in a recent video challenge, we all have "chachkies". Some of them are uselessly on display in a part of our house or condo we could care less about, while others have been stored away and forgotten about for several years.
For those who aren't familiar with the term "chachkies", it is unofficially defined as a yiddish word for trinkets and collectables, and more informally known as a knick knack with little or no purpose.
Even if you consider yourself a minimalist, we all have them -especially if we extend them into items of clothing we no longer wear for whatever reason.
Why is it that we seem to hold onto these pretty well useless (to us) items?
While an argument can be made that you never know when down the road it could once again become useful or stylish to ourselves or a loved one, in most cases it simply boils down to laziness. Whether it requires gathering the items and taking a drive to a local donation bin, or taking a picture of them and putting them up on eBay, it's deemed as too much to be done. So these items continue to spend their days packed away or on display with little or no appreciation.
Inspired by the aforementioned video challenge posed by Gary Vaynerchuk (in which he encouraged viewers to take the time to sell their "chachkies" on eBay), I decided to recently start giving this a shot.
It took me less than a minute to think of dozens of things I can easily put up for sale online that someone else could make use of or find value in that I wouldn't miss in the slightest. It took me less than 10 minutes to locate all of these items, take pictures of them, and post them on eBay for prices that may seem low, but are much more than I ever would have gotten for them had they stayed in their current dwelling.
The key was overcoming an unnecessary laziness that is blocking many of us from simplifying our lives (by alleviating us of useless crap), and also putting some extra money in the bank.
This may sound pathetic, but in just over a week I've already sold an item for $12.50 and have 8 more currently listed. That's $12.50 I was not in line to receive a couple of weeks ago, and one less thing to keep stored in my space.
If you're looking to cut out some of the unnecessary clutter in your living space and make a little extra cash, challenge yourself to do this as well. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how easy it can be and how satisfying it feels when something does go.
